The United States IYPT (USIYPT) is the organization dedicated to facilitating students from the United States to compete each summer at the international tournament. Originating members of this organization began working with students to compete at the 2015 IYPT in Thailand. In May of 2018 the group was officially recognized as a Non Profit Corporation dedicated to advancing the study of physics at the pre-college level for the purpose of competing at the IYPT.
Each year pre-college students prepare answers to 17 physics related questions. Their solutions are debated by other pre-college scholars and scored by experts in physics on their contribution to the understanding of the relevant physics.
The International Young Physicist Tournament (IYPT) is a physics competition that has occurred every summer since 1988. Each year more than 30 countries compete in debate style competition focused on 17 research based questions. Each team is comprised of three to five high school students that have conducted original research. The teams present their solutions to these problems and debate the validity of their work with students from other countries that have prepared solutions to the same problems.
